WAV100380 is a Secondary Air Injection Valve fitted to the secondary air injection system on V8 petrol engines. As an electrically controlled solenoid, the valve is operated by the engine management system to regulate the flow of fresh air into the exhaust during cold start and the engine warm-up phase, introducing secondary air into the exhaust manifolds or the inlet of the catalytic converter to promote oxidation of unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide until the catalyst reaches operating temperature. The valve forms part of the vehicle's emission control plumbing and works with associated pipes and check valves to route air from the pump to the exhaust; routine inspection should concentrate on electrical connections and any vacuum or hose integrity where fitted, and the valve should be replaced if it fails to actuate or if exhaust leaks are present.
